“The heart controls the energy flow by opening and closing.” Michael Singer, The Untethered Soul
The news of the bombing at the Boston Marathon has once again knocked us off-balance. It has made us sad, angry and frustrated. We have seen amazing courage and tenderness in people who responded and helped those in need. I have a friend who finished the race ten minutes before the bombs exploded…she was three blocks from the site. I was relieved to know that she was not hurt. Relieved, absolutely…happy, well how could I be? So much chaos, destruction and annihilation. How to wrap our heads around it?
We need to stop trying to wrap our head around it…it won’t work. There will be no thinking through this and have it make any sense. There is no answer that we will find that will make it all be understood. There is no blame we can place that will give us any satisfaction. There is no outrage we can express that will change the shattered innocence and incredible pain being experienced by the victims of this tragedy. We simply cannot…ever…wrap our head around all of this.
We can drop from our head and into our heart…and feel what it feels like from there. How about we remove the blocks in our heart that have been placed there by our thinking mind…and feel compassion and love and peace flow through us into the world? The world definitely needs more of this…right?
Let’s imagine the whole of Boston, every race participant, all of the spectators and families, every person injured and maimed, those who didn’t survive, the first responders and those who will continue to help for a long time…lets pour all of the love and compassion and peace that we can from our heart to them…to the world. Let them all feel comfort and support. And then, let’s decide to live from our open heart right here in our own life…in every encounter, at work, at home and in our travels.
You know what a closed heart feels like…it’s clenched and withdrawn, afraid and cold….and it blocks the flow of energy. The open heart is trusting and without fear…and it knows that the way to serve is to be wide open.
Open your heart…and have no fear. You are so much more than you have yet imagined.
Much peace
Paula
