“Sometimes the map we work so hard to chart and follow needs to be burned in order for us to live our own life.”
Mark Nepo from “The One Life We’re Given”
Do you have it all planned out? Have you set your goals and intentions? Have you worked hard to put yourself on the path to where you want to be? Have you finally read the book that has the answers you were looking for and now you know?
I get it. I’ve made these plans too. And some of them have worked out beautifully. I look back and I am more than satisfied with how the map has helped me live my life.
And…I agree with Mark. Sometimes we need to set the map aside if we are to hear our true calling…to live the life of our own deep desire and our own dream. I call it being who we are here to be…in this world, right now.
Many times the difference between charting our course and discovering who we are here to be is a fine line, a small shift, a fine tuned awareness. We need to strip away the doubt, throw away the map and step into the next possibility for our life.
The Universe is always calling us higher. That calling is not found in the doing-ness of life. It is not found in the search outside of our own self or in the map we have used up to now. It is found in the small voice, the idea, the nudge that you feel from the inside…in a moment of quiet, standing in the shower, in the snippet of conversation, a song on the radio, a story, an experience. It’s what we feel from the inside. It is what we discover and uncover. It is where we feel we were meant to be.
It is that brief encounter with the Divine, calling you to become more than you thought was possible. Make no mistake…the importance of what you are here to contribute is no less than essential.
Is it time to burn the map?
Much love
