“I’m not as terrified of the thought of death anymore, but I am terrified of not living life to the fullest.” Claire Wineland as quoted in a story by Jessica Ravitz, CNN
A friend and I were talking recently about dealing with death. I was sharing with him that my dad had just passed away two weeks ago. He said he will always remember his mom telling him there are worse things than death. I am thinking Claire knows that one of them is not living life to the fullest.
What does it really mean to live life to the fullest? From a spiritual perspective it means to be awake and to listen…to not engage in the struggles of living but to simply be aware…be present to them. The spiritual perspective is gained from the inside, from the heart and soul of you, from the place of quiet, from the understanding that something greater is taking place…at the level of Universe or Life Itself!
To be awake is to be in the moment and to open up space in your mind and heart so there is room enough for Life/Spirit/God/The Divine to move, to have Its way with you. Here’s the truth…Life is living you! If you make some room you will feel it. And if you pause to listen you will hear it.
I know it is easy to get caught up in the doing-ness of life. Sometimes we are moving so fast we say things like…I don’t even have time to think! If we are willing to wake up to the moment that is right in front of us and listen to where Life Itself is leading us…we will begin to live life to the fullest.
