Hold Hands

Nothing is forever. You know that, right? There are no guarantees. You know that, too. The only constant is change. That sums it up. We all know these things intellectually. Sometimes we are quick to point them out to others who are in the midst of loss or uncertainty…just reminding them that, well, that’s life.

When we are the ones wearing those shoes, the shoes of change or loss, it doesn’t feel so good to be reminded. It’s tough to accept that the latest catastrophe, the loss of a loved one, a terminal diagnosis, the end of a relationship, having to start over again from scratch is simply Life happening…no forevers, no guarantees, only change.

It helps to stop seeing change and loss as the enemy and to start seeing it as the teacher it is meant to be. We can decide, before we are in the midst of the latest difficulty, that we are here to experience Life however it shows up. You can do that, you know. You can decide that no matter what, you are going to stay on the ride, with your eyes open, holding hands with those you love.

There is nothing in the world that is in your control. We can find a way to enjoy this ride together. It’s much too short to do anything but.

Much love always
Paula
