“Nothing, ever, is worth closing your heart over.” Michael Singer, The Untethered Soul.
I think we do this, close our heart, in many situations and circumstances. Sometimes it is so automatic that we are not even conscious of this closing. Closing the heart blocks energy…it blocks the movement of life…it stifles the flow. When the flow is blocked, things tend to get clogged. And when things get clogged…well, it can be very uncomfortable.
So the idea here is…open your heart…to everything and anything in your life now. To be clear…I am not talking about any type of abuse or violence. I am talking about life and its myriad of joys, tensions and dreams. Open up to all of it! Let fear and anxiety take the back seat and open your heart.
It’s easy to recognize a closed heart. You can feel fear creep in, the flip-flop in your gut and the pulling back or away from whatever it is. A closed heart feels the need for protection and insulation from hurt or failure or risk…a secure place that cannot be touched. A closed heart chooses this delusional sense of security and blocks the mighty flow of unlimited inner energy…and it feels uncomfortable, lonely, tired, frustrating.
How can we practice an open heart way of being? First, just notice…notice the closing and notice the opening. When you notice the closing, Michael Singer suggests saying “No. I’m not going to close. I’m going to relax. I’m going to let this situation take place and be there with it.” In the midst of a fear coming around again my partner Renee’s mantra is “Right here, right now, I am safe and everything is okay.”
Notice the closing heart and choose to open up and let the energy flow through you. Claim a different Truth like those above and relax into the present. There really is nothing happening in your life that makes closing your heart a better option. Feeling clogged and holding all of the energy at bay takes a lot of effort. Relax, release, keep your eyes open, feel the unlimited potential of an open heart.
