Pay the Price

We should all make spiritual talk

Simple today:

God is trying to sell you something,

But you don’t want to buy.

That is what suffering is:

Your fantastic haggling,

Your maniac screaming over the price!

Hafiz, Persian Poet

I smiled when I read this poem. Isn’t it so true? We resist so many things in our life. We don’t like it, we want to make it different, we question “why me?”. So much resistance to what is right in front of us! When we engage in resistance rather than practice acceptance we experience suffering.

What is acceptance? Acceptance means to observe without judgment. It means to be aware and awake to the present moment. It means to live life consciously, always looking for the gift. It is pausing to ask questions like: What about this is for me? How can I use this to love more fully? Who do I want to be now? What choice could I make that would help me grow?

In that pause there is relief, if we let it be. A relief that rises from within us. It is the knowing that we are not alone on this journey of life…and that there is a new possibility in every storm. If we stopped haggling and screaming over the price we might notice this.

We might notice that our strength and passion come from inside, our ability to love is about letting down the walls we have built around our heart, and that putting one foot in front of the other happens first with the willingness to move.

Stop screaming over the price! Look around and see the beautiful life before you. Smile. Laugh, even. Open you heart. Pray.

Decide to buy whatever God is selling today.

Much, much love

Paula
