“Be you, and be relentlessly you,” she wrote. “That’s the stuff of champions.”
Lady Gaga in response to body shaming comments on social media after her Super Bowl halftime show.
It really doesn’t matter if you liked or disliked the Super Bowl halftime show. As in all outer things, we each see that which we choose to focus. We see the ‘good’ or we see the ‘flaw’. It is always our choice.
In this case, we might agree that Lady Gaga put on quite an extravagant show…from the rooftop dive to the dance moves to the wardrobe changes…lights, fireworks and on and on. You don’t have to be a fan to recognize that there was a whole lot going on. At least a few people decided to focus on her midriff…and to comment in a hateful way about it…at the exclusion of other parts of the show. They saw a ‘flaw’ and felt compelled to share their perception on social media.
Lady Gaga’s response is priceless and inspirational. She gave no power to the perceived ‘flaw’. Instead she used their reaction as a call to affirm her belief about the power of being true to who you really are. No calling them out, trying to make them wrong, defending herself or initiating a battle…just affirming her belief about what makes a champion.
So…how could you be relentlessly you? You might ask yourself: Am I true to my own self…no matter what others say? Do I feel comfortable in my own skin…do I like who I am? Am I confident in the possibilities for my life…instead of feeling stuck? Have I taken a moment to know what I really want out of life?
To be relentlessly you takes a little self reflection. It takes looking inward, understanding your passion, your desire and your own commitment to being fully YOU. Then can you stand strong and be all you came here to be…regardless of what others choose to say about you.
Peace always
Paula
