“…serving others is much higher than serving yourself.” Michael A Singer, The Surrender Experiment
We can have a misunderstanding about what it means to serve others. Sure, it includes helping those in need and stepping up when no one else will. We serve others with our time and with our money. You may feel as if you give until it hurts…or maybe you feel as though you have given enough, done your fair share and carried the load this far. In exasperation you think…how much more could I possible give? Does it ever end? What about me?!
Here’s the thing…we don’t serve others when we trudge exhausted through the world, barely able to catch our breath or get a restful night’s sleep. We don’t serve others when we give money or time begrudgingly….from a sense of not enough. We don’t serve others when we say Yes and then act with the attitude of No.
What if serving others is simply responding to what is in front of you in a kind and loving way? What if serving others is about bringing your full and present self to every moment of life? What if serving others is saying Yes and meaning Yes?
Serving others IS serving yourself. It is a higher calling to begin serving yourself by serving others with the whole and amazing YOU! It is living life from a consciousness that we are all connected, we all matter and we all could use a little help now and then.
With deep, deep gratitude for all United States Veterans and your service to freedom and peace.
